THE INFO I HAVE IS FROM A GUY THAT I WORKED FOR A FEW YEARS AGO AND HE CAME BACK FROM BAGHDAD IN NOV AFTER WORKING THREE MONTHS FOR AN AMERICAN COMPANY HE SAID HE IS WAITING FOR THE GROSS PAYMENT PAPERWORK TO COME THROUGH THEN HE WILL SEND ME THE FORMS FOR A CRB CHECK , HE ALSO SAID THAT THEY HAD ARMED GUARDS BUT WENT TO THE JOB SITE IN A MINI BUS WHICH I THOUGHT STRANGE . IT'S BAD ENOUGH DRIVING TO WORK THROUGH PECKHAM IN SARF LONDON IN A MINI BUS LET ALONE BAGHDAD.

Expat bricklayer in Baghdad? Not a chance... NEW
by: Anonymous

All contracting jobs in Iraq are very well paid due to the threat. I have been here for almost 4 years earning 90k stirling, tax free, a year as a security consultant.

If the job you have been offered is working outside the wire, then the chances of you surviving to spend any of your money are pretty slim. All expats need armed security and armoured vehicles to travel around Iraq, so be very careful about what you're getting yourself into.

All the tradesmen I've seen since I've been here who work in the US camps are from either India or Bangladesh, as they are cheap labour and everyone involved in construction outside the camps are Iraqis, NOT expats.

Good luck
