Civilian Jobs in Iraq
Most of the civilian jobs in Iraq can be broken down to contracting positions
and civil service (or government) positions. While contractors make up the
majority of these positions, the various countries participating in the Iraqi
reconstruction efforts also post government employees to support the various
embassies and agency positions.
Many of these positions require work experience and most contracting firms are
looking for employees who can immediately begin work. Since the contracts vary,
they are looking to get the most bang for the buck and prefer employees with the
knowledge necessary to go right to work. However, there are some positions that
require only minimal experience and would suit someone who is interested in earning
an above average income without a great amount of skill.
The types of civilian jobs in Iraq can vary since all skills are needed to support
the environment. Even today there are still numerous military sites originally built
to support the war effort that require personnel to support the troops.
Consider each location as a small community which requires the skills of electricians,
plumbers, mechanics, food preparation workers, Information Technology (IT) workers,
etc. In short, all the skills needed to operate a military base.

is an Army initiative to hire civilian contractors to perform services supporting
the U.S. military in wartime and other contingencies.
