Dear Scottish,
until recently, Western was the buzz word, meaning Western Europe, U.K., Ireland, U.S., etc.. was fine for employment. However, my friend who had worked in Iraq then returned to England is now having some difficulty gaining employment with the same company he had left. They are saying that the Iraqi Government is not allowing British Nationals into the country. This is rather queer as there are persons who are from Scotland who are still on site and suffering no difficulties. I am a simple man with no clear understanding of the British Isles other than there are the Scots, the Irish and the British, why they would not allow the persons from the U.K. but allow persons from Scotland to work is a puzzle. As far as the U.S. Passport stipulation, my advise would be to contact them and go as far as you can.
Check with ITT, Fluor, KBR and to a lesser degree Dyncorp as they are more into the Tech trade and most of their buildings are steel box's shipped in on transport plane...... (Joking)

Thanks for some response but forgot to mention I am from Scotland so no US passport. Will this make a difference to get any work in the mddle east???
