Hiring in mass
by: Doc

Hi Steve
Hiring in mass;
Companies who have contracts in the Middle East will fill vacancies as they arise, as far as hiring whole crews or other contracting companies to fill voids, I've never heard of it. That is not to say it doesn't happen, it's just means "I've" never heard of it.

When a company bids a contract and has a need for large groups of workers they will probably have people who are hired from the same company, but usually because they all applied at the same time and their resume's all came up at once. I did know 2 electricians who were hired together from the same company, but I am going to call that a Fluke as Electricians were in great demand. I would try getting through to the companies directly and ask.

Try KBR first, they may be able to answer your question better.

KBR Operator; 713-753-2000

Good luck.

A Steel Box?
by: Doc

Non hazardous jobs in a combat zone even on a base are non existent. There are jobs which have less risk than say running a Convoy during the day from Balad to Rustahmya (I spell phonetically... Sorry), but even the guy who runs a "Porta Potty Pumper" is at risk when mortars start coming over the wire. Bear in mind, the concrete "Scud" bunkers and T wall barriers are "Outside" the buildings and maintenance bays where people work. The Gyms and Some of the Dining facilities where being built or retrofitted with hardened roofs, but you could still get run over by the guy in the "Pooper Pumper".
There was a time when some men felt so confident they would never get hit (I speak regarding Contractors, not the Military) that in place of their Trauma Plates in their PPE Vest, they would put a slab of plywood to cut down on weight..... Not me though, I may have been born at night, but I wasn't born last night!

If you are qualified, you may look into jobs such as; Human Resources, MWR Worker (The Gym and Swimming Pool), Labor Forman, Safety, or Vector Control (Bug and Snake Hunter,.. The Middle East's version of the "Orkin Man").

Good Luck
