Heavy diesel equipment mechanic

by Josh
(Mt)

Hello, I have been interested in a heavy diesel mechanic position overseas for some time now. Just curious what of the four contractors hire heavy diesel equipment mechanics and which one is about the best to work for? What could a diesel mechanic with 10 plus years and EPG experience expect to make? What would the best course of action to get rockin and rollin on this be? Thank you for any help.

Best Company?
by: Doc

Dear Josh,
While in Theater many people hear rumors as to what another company worker makes and I guarentee it will always be more than the company you are working for at that moment.
I recieved an email from a friend who had been working for a company in Iraq then hired on to another company in Afghanistan. He claimed his hours were less and his pay went from around $86,000 a year to $118,000 a year, with better Medical insurance and Theater differential pay.
Many companies try to increase their bottom line by hiring third country nationals and then handing them a wrench and calling them mechanics, but that generally starts to be discovered when Convoys get stuck 1/2 way into a mission when Trucks start breaking down.
If I were to pick three companies that I would hire on to, and this is only personal oppinion, it would be;
#1- Fluor;
http://www.fluor.com/careers/professional/Pages/logcap_iv_opportunities_search.aspx

#2- ITT;

And a VERY distant 3rd- KBR;

Remember, the company that hires you first, may be the most desparate. Do a web search of a companies history.
"Logcap" contracts are getting tight, so....
... Good Luck.
