Age is less of a factor than health.
If you are a sedentary 50 year old who burns through 2 packs of cigarettes a day and eats bacaon lard burgers at every meal, chances are that you won't pass the physical exam.

The great thing about working as a contractor in the Middle East is that contracting is not Gender specific. Both the Military and Civilian forces implement woman in the same capacity as men. Personal awareness must be exercised however, as the ratio of Men to Woman is way to one side and assaults on women have been reported. Woman work as Truck Drivers, MWR, HR, and most every other position open. Conditions are harsh and this must be taken into account as in some Camps private accommodations are almost non existent. In 2005-2006 in Al Asad, Drivers were billeted in GP Large Tents and only allowed 20 inches between their bunks and the man next to them. In situations as such, woman were billeted with other woman, but you need to understand that special arrangements cannot always be made.
Understanding also that the culture is not a favoring one for women, and men of the region may smile at a woman but in the vast scheme of things, it is not because they want to be friends.
Again, being aware of your surroundings is very important, and for a woman it may be critical.
