Contracting Companies who are supplying workers for the Government are alotted a specific amout as for the type of work performed. "Uplift" is the amount of money paid for a particular zone, for example, in Iraq, the uplift for a Convoy Truck Driver was around $3,200.00 per month. This was based on the Hazards to be expected, along with the uplift the worker was also paid an hourly wage based on a 12 hour, 7 day a week labor schedual. A driver on an average month woul be able to Bank around $7,500 to $8,000. I have heard stories (Stories mind you, there is no confermation of these)that swimming pool lifeguards made more, but I believe this was made up by a Driver disgruntled by the absence of strong beer. Afghanistans uplift was less and therefore the overall salary was less.
I hope this helped.
