Who should I contact ?

by Richard Lucas
(Oklahoma)

I have 15+ years experience in construction. My preferred area is all aspects of interior and exterior building painting. Certainly there is lots of construction / "re"-construction taking place in the Middle East. Someone has to do the painting. Why not me ? Harsh living conditions and dangerous situations would be fine. I am not seeking "top" pay, just decent wages. I wouldn't think tons of people would be lined up to work over there, but I'm probably wrong. I am unmarried and have no dependents, which I think would be a benefit. I am interested in long term work. Where do I go to actually apply with someone or a company ?

Logcap.
by: Doc

Dear Richard,
Companies which hold contracts under the Government "Logcap" program like "Fluor", "Dyncorp", "ITT" and to now a lesser degree, "KBR", are companies you would want to apply to. However, you couldn't be more wrong about the number of people applying for jobs. In 2007, KBR had approx 50,000 personnel from the Balkans to Afghanistan and yet still took in over 1/2 million applications. The process of getting hired sometimes took over 1 year.
In your case, getting hired may be easier than most, as you are correct about the construction jobs. You will want to apply for jobs as "Construction, Laborer Foreman (Don't be scared by the name.... You'll qualify) and such positions.
Some of the sites are confusing, but there are post's on this site which will show you how to more easily navigate them.
Good Luck.
